We were kindly gifted a stay at UllswaterHeights with Hoseasons in the Lake District and what a fantastic place! The stay was based I’m creating a honest review and so I thought instead of writing I loved this this and that is wrote a day by day day in the life of what we did and the lodge and that way you see it through our eyes rather than a generic boring review!
Day 1 Monday (we did a Monday- Friday Break)
we packed the car and hit the road about 11am , with two under two to pack for it felt as if we’d need a trailer too! But all in and off we went, after checking the details of the park check in to the lodge was 4pm so we decided to head to lake Windermere to meet Craig’s parents for coffee first ,we went to a Hayes Garden world to see all the beautiful Christmas decorations for Penny, she absolutely loved doing this and then we had a beautiful cake and coffee in their cafe. After this we headed off to Sainsburys at Penrith as this was near to where we were staying and got some nice snacks and treats in for our stay at Ullswater.
soon it was time to head to the lodge , I was super excited to see what was InStore. Upon arrival to reception to collect our keys we were greeted with. A glass of Prosecco which was super lovely and a nice added touch. We were given the keys to a contemporary 4 lodge with lake view , and when we opened the doors we were blow away it was absolutely gorgeous, so spacious and brilliant for children penny loved running in and out of the rooms shouting boo! a gorgeous decking area overlooking g the lakes and a nice private hottub!
so unpacked and penny and arlo to bed we enjoyed a Chinese (delivered from just eat!) and we enjoyed a soak in the Hot tub for our first night
We started our second day with a lazy morning penny played with her me win the night garden toys on offer from sainsburys £50 down to £25! Arlo loved lieing on the couch kicking his legs being able to watch out of the windows . We then got up and all got dressed as Craig’s mum and dad came over to visit and have a look round, it was so lovey to be near his family for a change to be able to just pop in! Once they arrived we decided to head to Keswick for the day (around a 30min drive) the lodges were so central to everywhere we wanted to go , nowhere was more than about 30-40 minutes. We had a lovey walk around Keswick centre and a fabulous lunch . We then headed back around tea time once we were settled back in the lodge Craig headed out and got us KFC for tea yum! Again only a ten minute drive away!
this night w event to run the bath for Penny and Arlo and realised the hot water had gone off, we rang the out of hours number and in no less than 10 minutes a staff member arrived to try and resolve the issue, he open the boiler cupboard pressed something and got covered in water bless him! We couldn’t help but laugh, he then said he’d been fixing a hottub previously and fell in it , what a day! But he quickly made the decision it needed a professional and as it was out of hours it would be the next day so away he went and 5 minutes later he returned with a set of keys to a new lodge and loved us. Exceptional customer service if you ask me, especially with two small children!
so I packed up and Craig loaded it into the car and moved it down to the new lodge (a contemporary 6, still with lake view) an hour or so later we were all moved and getting the kids ready for bed all settled! now time to relax.
Again we started with another lazy morning, we have such a busy life at home it was nice to just do nothing for a while! Penny really enjoyed being all on one level so no stairs to worry about while she was playing! We settled Penny and Arlo for a late morning nap , Craig made bacon and sausages and there was a knock on the door, a member of staff with a bottle of wine to apologise for the love , how lovely! We all got ready and had a drive to Carlisle as I wanted to go to Poundland 😂 again only 30 mins drive . Once we were back from shopping we kindly had a meal included in our stay at their new lake restaurant again for an honest opinion.
we all went along around 7pm and sometimes going for food with two under two can be daunting . How will they behave? And penny lived up to expectations, a tantrum within 5 minutes of being i there, I could of cried! But the staff were amazing and the other diners were too , they had older children and were all very understanding said they’d been there with there’s! We looked at the menus which were beautiful! (Pics below) and both decided to go for a steak, our favourite meal! And penny had posh fish fingers and peas!
the steak was cooked for me just how I like it so I was really happy with that but I felt there was A lot of fat on but I understand that sometimes can’t be helped , I had mashed potato and peppercorn sauce with line and I just felt the portion sizes could of been a little bit bigger, other than that it was delicious! off home to bed for penny and Arlo now! Me and Craig poured a drink and got ready to relax in the hottub, only to realise this night it was empty! Again I rang the out of hours and the staff were amazing so apologetic and were soon round at 8am to fill with hot water so we didn’t need to wait for it to heat , I honestly cannot daily the customer service of the team nothing was too much trouble!
We got up on the morning and got dressed fairly early today as we had a trip Beatrix Potter World in Windermere planned (tickets gifted) so we head up up and over Kirk stone pass to get there up and right along past lake Ullswater it’s definitely which was really nice and it’s the second largest in the Lake District, I jumped in there when I was 11 at an out of bounds centre called Howtown!
we arrived at Windermere and it was pouring down! But that didn’t matter we got the pram out and headed inside penny walked as I figured the museum might be a bit small for a side by side double and I was right!
inaide the adventure begins with a small video about how peter rabbit started which I loved but penny got bored very quick! Fab for olde t Holden was though.
she absolutely adored walking round the museum and seeing all the exhibits though all the animals and interactive things were amazing, Mr Mcgregors garden was my favourite part! After we had finished looking round we headed to the first gift shop where penny got a gorgeous leather Beatrix potter soft ball and Arlo got some Peter rabbit bibs . A short walk outside then took us to the nursery shop and it was absolutely beautiful, I’ve included some pictures of some of the gorgeous items! We then headed to costa for a coffee and feed arlo then back to Craig’s parents for a chilled evening and a takeaway! We headed back to the lodge about 8pm and lifted penny and Arlo straight into bed we then enjoyed snacks and the HotTub a brilliant end to a brilliant week!
check out was 10am do I pretty much packed the stuff the night before, ( I like to be organised!) so we all just had to get up and dressed and hoover the lodge and then head home!
Thank you so much Hoseasons and ullswater Heights for having us, we loved every second of our stay and will definitely be recommending to everyone!
Thank you so much for reading I hope you enjoyed our stay!
